"Governor's Pandemic Influenza Summit" Program Date: September 3, 2009 Program Location: Frankfort Convention Center Program Description: The summit allowed over 1,200 people to leatn about our state's capacity to respond to the expected surge in H1N1 cases this fall and to gain the information needed to prepare their organization for the continuation of the pandemic. Public health experts discussed the current H1N1 situation and what to expect in the fall. Representatives from schools, businesses and health care organizations discussed current pandemic flu plans and preparedness activities. Breakout sessions encouraged datailed information sharing on thses topics and more. Presenters: Information presented at the summit is accurate as of 9/3/2009. "Understanding Emerging Infectious Diseases and the EMS Sector" Program Date: August 15, 2009 Program Location: Morehead Conference Center, Morehead, KY Presenter: Dennis Sullivan, CHMM, CEM Program Description: This presentation is for EMS workers to review the transmission of infectious diseases, measures to take to protect EMS workers and their patients and how to disinfect equipment in the ambulance. The presentation will also include information on the novel H1N1 virus and other infectious diseases. At the end of the presentation, participants will be asked to demonstrate the knowledge that they have learned to four different scenarios by providing answers to questions like "what protective equipment would you use for yourself and the patient in this situation?" "Influenza and Pandemic Planning: for Occupational Health Nurses" Program Date: June 26, 2009 Program Location: University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences Presenter: Ruth Carrico, PhD, RN, CIC Program Description: This presentation will discuss the difference between seasonal influenza and more serious diseases like the avian influenza and the novel H1N1 influenza. This program will also provide occupational health nurses the knowledge about characterization and control and containment methods for pandemic viruses. "Preventing Transmission of Infections" Program Date: ongoing, web-based self learning. Program Description: This unique educational module focuses on the modes of disease transmission, explaining the ways diseases or organisms move from one individual to another. The module also examines the relationship between standard precautions and transmission-based precautions, and emphasizes how these precautions can help protect both the patient and the healthcare personnel from the exposure to an infection. After completing this learning module, a healthcare worker will be able to:
